About This Site

This site was developed from the database that produced the 'official' book by this name, from the U.S. Forest Service. For the present, it has been shaped to match the main three tables in that book, both to provide an online counterpoint to the book, but also to facilitate verifying the accuracy of the conversion process.

The data herein have not been checked throughout with any meticulous care. A number of spot checks have been done, and we feel that it is a faithful copy of the book. Nevertheless, the final authority is the Forest Service, so if there is any question about the data here, please check with the Southwestern Regional Office.

The data from the database was provided by Rory Steinke from the Regional Office, and the conversion to a Microsoft Access database, as well as the creation of the pages that access it and present the data to the user were done by the Arid Lands Information Center (ALIC) at the Office of Arid Lands Studies, the University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona. We are indebted to the Forest Service for their willingness to provide the data for this site and hope it is of service to them. We present it to users with the idea that it will make the information contained in that database widely available to anyone who might be interested in it.
