Submodule 2: Invasive Species Defined

Where They Come From

Invasive species found in the United States have originated from all over the world. Starting in the mid 1500’s, several originated from Northern Europe as immigrants explored the New World. Over the past 200 years, with enormous increases in immigration, travel, and trade, the diversity of their origins has exploded. Where invasive species originate is highly dependent on this flow of people and goods around the world; these flows are called invasive species “pathways”.
